What Is CAB Physical?
A CAB (comprehensive annual physical exam) is a physical exam that goes beyond the typical annual physical. This type of physical is required by certain occupations, but is also recommended for patients with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer, or for patients over the age of 65.
Many of our working patients need to pass a comprehensive physical exam every two years in order to remain fit for duty. This physical exam is more thorough than a standard annual physical, as it looks for any signs of physical or mental deterioration. Depending on the person's age and medical history, the physical may include:
- Vision and hearing tests
- Heart and lung function tests
- Sleep apnea tests
- Drug and alcohol tests
- Blood tests
What Occupations Need a CAB Physical?
Many occupations require an individual to pass a comprehensive annual physical (CAB) in order to remain fit for duty. These include:
- Firefighters
- Police officers
- Pilots
- Commercial drivers
- Athletes
- Paramedics
- Workers in hazardous jobs
All of these individuals must periodically pass a CAB physical in order to ensure their safety and the safety of those they come into contact with. Additionally, people who work in certain occupations may be required to have a physical more frequently than once a year.
