Cryotherapy for Skin Tags, Moles, Warts, & Other Growths
Skin growths can be unsightly and embarrassing, as well as uncomfortable. Warts, for example, can make one feel self-conscious and moles can create an uneven skin surface. Skin tags tend to be uncomfortable due to their location on the body, such as in areas of friction or underneath clothing. With cryotherapy, however, you can remove these skin growths with ease, allowing you to enjoy a smooth and even skin surface with no discomfort or embarrassment.
Why Do I Have Skin Growths?
Skin growths occur when skin cells divide in an abnormal way, forming an unwanted lump. They can also be caused by genetics, hormonal imbalances, and infection. Skin growths can occur anywhere on the body but are generally found in areas such as the face, neck, chest, underarms, and groin.
Skin growths can be unsightly and cause emotional distress for those affected. Additionally, growths like skin tags tend to cause discomfort due to their location on the body near clothing or jewelry, which can cause friction. At Neighborhood Medical Center, we can remove the following skin growths:
- Skin lesions
- Warts
- Moles
- Benign growths
- Seborrheic and actinic keratoses
- Skin tags
- Cysts
How Does Cryotherapy Work?
Cryosurgery is a medical procedure that uses a probe to freeze and destroy targeted tissue. It is most often used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as warts, facial lesions, and precancerous moles. During a cryosurgical procedure, liquid nitrogen is applied to the affected area, which freezes it quickly and destroys the cells. This procedure leaves a scab that will heal naturally over the course of several weeks.
This is a minimally invasive and relatively quick procedure with few risks compared to traditional surgery. The advantages of cryosurgery over traditional surgery are that it is less invasive, requires no hospitalization, has little to no scarring, is relatively painless, and has no risk of infection. For most cryotherapy procedures, recovery time is rapid and patients can quickly return to their daily activities. The area may feel tender or numb for a few days, however icing the area can help to reduce any swelling or discomfort.
